Help students see that the same situation can look very different depending on who is telling the story with this engaging Rooted in Reading companion for Two Bad Ants by Chris Van Allsburg! This week-long resource develops students' understanding of point of view and perspective while strengthening comprehension, vocabulary, and grammar skills.

Over the course of 5 days, students will explore point of view, different views, making connections, and different perspectives. Students will consider how someone's experiences and position can influence the way they view a situation and practice examining events from more than one perspective.

Students will also explore the paired nonfiction topic Sugar, Sugar!, extending the learning from the mentor text while building background knowledge through informational reading.

Vocabulary instruction focuses on the words deemed, eager, anxiously, delicate, rotting, and hovered, giving students opportunities to develop word knowledge and use context to strengthen understanding.

Each day includes a Daily Deep Dive featuring a mentor sentence from the text. Students closely examine the sentence to practice reading, editing, grammar, noticing language choices, and thinking deeply about meaning.

The week's grammar focus is articles: a, an, and the. Through targeted instruction and practice, students learn how these frequently used words function within sentences and how to choose the appropriate article when writing.
