Checking On You SEL Resource

Free resource from Michael Creekmore, LPC, CPCS:
Sometimes all it takes is a simple question to let someone know that you care. It doesn’t have to be in-depth or probing but just a quick acknowledgment of existence that may lead to a display of empathy. SEL doesn’t always have to be a grand scale overhaul of curriculum that becomes yet another box for educators to check. SEL can be a way of being, as long as we are consistent and intentional in our attempts to utilize concepts derived from SEL components.
This download includes a “Checking On You”’ form. This form should be used to check on your students. However, this can be completed verbally. I simply offer the form to be used as a way to structure the conversation. The conversation does not need to be long or in-depth, but a simple check-in at the beginning of the morning and a simple check-out at the end of the day just to at least challenge them to identify a feeling other than “good.” But seriously, this form/ conversation can help determine your students' emotions and potentially inform you of any issues bubbling under the surface.
