Help your kindergarten students build a strong foundation in sorting, classifying, graphing, and interpreting data with this engaging 2-week Kindergarten Magic of Math unit! Through hands-on activities, picture graphs, and meaningful discussions, students learn how to organize information, compare categories, and answer questions using data.

This unit makes early data analysis fun and accessible while giving students plenty of opportunities to sort objects, create graphs, and make observations about the information they collect.

The unit is designed with a progressive learning structure across two weeks:

Week 1: Sort & Classify Data

Students learn how to sort objects into categories based on shared attributes. Through hands-on exploration, they discover how data can be organized in meaningful ways and practice explaining why objects belong together.

Week 2: Graphing with Picture Graphs

Students collect, organize, and represent data using picture graphs. They practice reading graphs, comparing categories, and answering questions about which groups have more, fewer, or the same number of items.
