Make learning about money and financial literacy meaningful and engaging with 2nd Grade Magic of Math Unit 5: Money & Financial Literacy!

This 4-week unit includes 20 days of ready-to-use math lessons and activities that take students from identifying and counting coins to applying money skills in real-world situations. Students practice counting and comparing money, solving money word problems, and exploring important financial literacy concepts such as saving, spending, deposits, withdrawals, wants and needs, goods and services, and more.

Week 1: Identifying & Counting Coins

Students identify coins, learn their values, and use skip counting strategies to count collections of coins.

Week 2: Value of Money

Students determine and compare the value of money while practicing with different combinations. Activities are included for counting coins only or counting bills and coins.

Week 3: Money Word Problems, Saving & Spending

Students solve real-world money problems while exploring saving, spending, deposits, and withdrawals through hands-on activities, partner games, and problem-solving practice.

Week 4: Personal Financial Literacy

Students build an understanding of important financial literacy concepts, including:

  • Saving and spending
  • Goods and services
  • Producers and consumers
  • Wants and needs
  • Borrowing and lending
