Build Reading Comprehension

Before reading, students make personal connections and think about people they enjoy talking to. They are also introduced to the skill of learning a lesson from a story through four short practice stories.

During the read-aloud, discussion questions encourage students to think about Lacey’s experiences, actions, and changes throughout the story while determining what readers can learn from her.

After reading, students respond to the text and explain the lesson Lacey learns through a creative reading response and craft.

Build Classroom Community

Take the lesson beyond reading comprehension with activities focused on being a good listener. Students discuss and model what good listening looks like, including listening to the speaker, waiting for a turn, thinking about the speaker’s words, asking questions, and keeping their bodies ready to listen.

Together, students can build the interactive Being a Good Listener anchor chart, creating a classroom reference you can revisit throughout the year.

This interactive read-aloud makes it easy to use a favorite picture book to teach important reading comprehension skills while encouraging thoughtful discussion, positive classroom habits, and a strong classroom community.

Please Note: The book Lacey Walker, Nonstop Talker is not included and will need to be purchased or borrowed separately.
