Help students become strong readers who ask questions before, during, and after reading with this engaging Rooted in Reading companion for A Plump and Perky Turkey by Teresa Bateman! This week-long resource helps students ask and answer questions about a text while building strong reading, vocabulary, and grammar skills.
Over the course of 5 days, students will dive into comprehension lessons focused on asking questions. Through modeled thinking, interactive discussions, anchor charts, response activities, and printables, students will learn how the questions readers ask help them understand and retell a story.
Students will also read the nonfiction reader Thanksgiving Traditions and record what they learn, building background knowledge and connecting literary and informational texts.
Vocabulary instruction is woven throughout the week with activities designed to develop understanding of the words feast, plump, pose, clever, and camouflage.
Each day includes a Daily Deep Dive where students interact with a mentor sentence from the story, building skills in reading, editing, grammar, noticing language, and thinking about the meaning of a sentence.
The week also includes a grammar focus on adjectives, with targeted instruction and practice matching and using describing words in sentences.
