Help students discover the lessons a story can teach with this engaging Rooted in Reading companion for Amazing Grace by Mary Hoffman! This week-long resource helps students think about what the author wants readers to learn while building strong reading, vocabulary, and grammar skills.

Over the course of 5 days, students will dive into comprehension lessons focused on identifying the lesson of a story. Through interactive discussions, anchor charts, response activities, and printables, students will learn how to think about what a character learns and what readers can take away from the text.

Students will also read the nonfiction reader Inspired by Greatness and learn about inspiring dancers, building background knowledge and connecting literary and informational texts.

Vocabulary instruction is woven throughout the week with activities designed to develop understanding of the words seek, audition, stunning, imagine, and success.

Each day includes a Daily Deep Dive where students interact with a mentor sentence from the story, building skills in reading, editing, grammar, noticing language, and thinking about the meaning of a sentence.

The week also includes a grammar focus on proper nouns, with targeted instruction and practice finding proper nouns in the story, sorting nouns, and using proper nouns in sentences.
