Dive into fairy tales from a fresh perspective with this engaging Rooted in Reading companion for The Poisoned Apple by Anne Lambelet! This week-long resource helps students recognize traditional fairy tale elements, explore how authors can change familiar stories, and determine the lesson or moral of a text.

Over the course of 5 days, students will focus on elements of fairy tales, fractured fairy tales, and finding the moral of a story. Through discussions, anchor charts, response activities, and printables, students will examine familiar story elements and think critically about how changing characters, settings, or events can create a completely new version of a traditional tale.

Students will also explore nonfiction learning about fairy tales, helping them build background knowledge about this familiar genre and make connections to the week's mentor text.

Vocabulary instruction focuses on the words detest, tireless, plot, mine, and provisions, giving students multiple opportunities to build word knowledge and understand vocabulary in context.

Each day includes a Daily Deep Dive featuring a mentor sentence from the story. Students use the sentence to practice close reading, editing, grammar, noticing how language works, and thinking deeply about meaning.

The week's grammar focus is verb tenses, with an emphasis on future and present tense verbs.
