1st Grade Magic of Math Unit 1: Place Value & Number Sense

Build a strong foundation in place value and number sense with 1st Grade Magic of Math Unit 1! This four-week math unit helps students develop an understanding of numbers as they move from counting and representing numbers within 20 to working with tens and ones, numbers to 99, comparing numbers, and number order.

Students use hands-on models, manipulatives, number lines, games, and meaningful practice to see how numbers are built and how they relate to one another.

Week 1: Counting & Understanding Numbers to 20

Students strengthen foundational number sense as they count, represent, and explore numbers within 20.

Week 3: Place Value to 99

Students extend their understanding of place value as they build, represent, and describe numbers through 99.

Week 4: Comparing & Ordering Numbers to 99

Students use their understanding of place value to compare and order two-digit numbers and explore their position on a number line.
